Just bought a 1990 XJ6 Sovereign idles up and down and the oil pressure is really low at idle to the point of light coming on, any suggestions.

Ok, well idling up and down is often dirty throttle body/clogged egr/dirty idle control valve, generally a good throttle/intake muck-out will be needed if maintenance schedule has gone to pot. (almost all xj40's need this, search for intake clean up in the forum)

The oil pressure reading low is more than likely due to a failing oil pressure sensor, see this thread:

oh and welcome to the funny farm!

Hi jharleyk,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us.

In addition to Larry's excellent suggestions, other possible causes of a wandering idle are an air leak somewhere between the Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF) and the intake manifold gasket; a vacuum leak; or a problem with the Idle Air Control Valve (IACV), usually either carbon build-up in the valve body and on the stepper motor plunger that prevents the valve from sealing, or less commonly an air leak in the gasket that seals the valve body to the intake manifold.

Cheers,

Don

Default New issues with my 1990 XJ6 Sovereign

I was hoping to be able to drive the car for a little bit before having to work on it but took it for a ride with the family and noticed fluid trail on driveway, looked under car and found leak coming from Hydraulic line that I think supplies the rear self leveling suspension, it was brought to my attention when I heard and felt a strain on the power steering pump. I checked the fluid level in the Hydraulic System reservoir and found that it was so low that it didn't even come close to touching the dip stick. The challenge now is finding the right part and this Castrol Hydraulic System Mineral Oil - Code #5966, does anyone have good sources for parts as I am going to do any work that needs to be done to this car myself.
