Default New xj40 project problems

Hi all, new here. I recently purchased a dirt cheap xj40 project (which aesthetically has seen better days) I changed the head gasket and got it through an mot so I now begin working through the long list of odds and sods I have discovered.

first things first I have noticed that when I have the lights on and the dashboard/centre console is illuminated the illumination lights flicker on and off followed by short periods of them remaining off this appears to happen randomly. Has anyone had any experience with this?

secondly, doesn’t anyone know where to start with adjusting the park sensor? I have to ensure the gear stick is pushed well into park for it start the car

Lastly (for now ) has anyone fitted a glass sunroof? My current panel one has rotted a rather large amount and now leaks in causing some damp issues in the car. I have got a new seal however I don’t think this will help due to the corrosion. I could replace mine with a standard panel but haven’t been able to find a red one plus I think a glass one would be quite nice.

cheers Harvey

Hi Harvey!

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us!

Please tell us the year, engine and model designation of your car so we can offer the most specific replies. Over the course of its production, some significant changes were made to the XJ40. For example, the early cars, 1987-89, had vacuum fluorescent instrument clusters which were known for developing cracked solder joints on the main circuit board, which could describe your symptoms, at least as far as the instrument cluster goes. But you're also having issues with the center console, so perhaps the issue is with the dimmer module on the side of the steering column.

Let us know the car's details and we'll try to help you on your journey.

Cheers,

Don
