Newbie To Thread-Question @ XJ6
I am new to the board and I just inherited a 1994 XJ6 (4.0). It's in mint condition with only 19K miles on it. Anyone have an idea what this would be worth? My brother bought it brand new...babied it...kept in garage and left to me and I don't know anything about it. Good place to post ? Appreciate any insight and guidance.
thanks in advance.

94.5 is the start of the X300 model and a way to tell it is the earlier X40 sedan it will have the distributor cap and heavy gauge spark plug wires
The X300 will have a hockey puck ( cam position sensor ) in the distributor's place on the fwd right engine block
This cam position sensor will have a round clear plastic window on the top

Possibly, but value is always a tricky question. In any case, you'd be better off in the XJ40 subforum (https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj40-xj81-25/)

Lovely car and definitely a later series XJ40 with the battery in the boot.
My Australian delivered 1994 XJ40 had round headlights.
However different specifications for export markets were pretty common so North American specs may have been quite different.
As labcoatguy suggests, go to the XJ40 part of this forum.
Cheers

Hi drannamarie,
Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It is great to have you with us.
I have moved your thread to the forum for the XJ40. As you have been informed, this is the Jaguar factory project code for your 1994 XJ6.
Your car is in exceptional condition and should bring more money than an XJ40 with typical mileage. Unfortunately, the XJ40 model is not valued as highly as the 1987 and earlier Series III XJ6, or even the 1996 and later X300. Critics complain that the body is "boxy" and less beautiful compared to the earlier and later models. However, those of us who have owned XJ40s know they are truly fine automobiles, and when cared for properly, will deliver years of luxury-performance driving pleasure.
You might see if you can find bid and sold prices for previous auctions at sites like bringatrailer.com, carsandbids.com, etc. This will give you a real-world idea of what the market is willing to pay for XJ40s in excellent condition. You can check Kelly Blue Book (kbb.com) and NADA (nada.org or jdpower.com), but the price ranges given at those sites are often not representative of "collector" quality vehicles.
Cheers,
Don

Looks like a sovereign, hence the rectangular headlights. Lovely colour/ trim combination, and nice spec with the sunroof. Being a later XJ 40, spared the digital dash. A lovely car, with amazingly low mileage, but sadly under appreciated by the market. Very difficult to value, a unique opportunity for anyone wanting an XJ 40, it’s just that there don’t seem to be very many such people.

Wow! I suggest getting to know that car and driving it some. You may decide you like it. It really is stunning. I agree with the rest to say that these are underappreciated and thus undervalued. I saw one recently in similar condition on Hemmings- essentially unused- which sold for about $9000. In my opinion, that was a very lucky seller. But I have 2 and dont think of trying to sell, id never get my money out of them, besides that isnt my plan when I buy. By my thinking, this is what a car Should look like.
My 92 has the black interior with that ice blue carpet, this is the only other car ive seen with all black/ and blue carpet. very classy.

Yes, a good XJ40 is truly a thing to enjoy and treasure but unfortunately the market as a whole grossly undervalues these cars in comparison to their build quality.
Those of us who have owned them for years appreciate them for the wonderful cars they are but don't expect to make some killer level profits from trying to sell the car.
