Default not going into park

Suddenly my 94 xj40 will not go into park.
All other positions work fine

Fixed itself.
Out of 4, at least one runs at any given time.

Hi startupboy,

It would be worth checking the bracket on the side of the transmission where the cable connects to be sure a screw hasn't come loose or fallen out.

Cheers,

Don

Totally agree with Don.
I had a similar problem with my Daimler; it would also sporadically not let me go out of park when I started it in the morning. After driving for half an hour or so, the dreaded "limp home" light would sometimes appear as well.
Transmission rebuilder looked at it eight years ago and said the wires at the bracket need attention. Also, something related to the valve body.
I am not entirely certain what he did, but Limp Home mode has not appeared again, thankfully. No problem moving from part to drive or reverse either.
Charles
