Ok a new problem
my radio comes on but can change the station. everything else works on the radio. So I disconnected the battery and reconnected and tryed to enter the code but it will not let me. What can I do about my radio. it is the factory radio. I have a 94 xj6. Any advice. Or do I have to find another radio?

EFrazen,
Did you post your issue regarding the stereo in this forum:
Audio/Visual Electronics - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
Maybe someone that browses that forum can help. Hate it when there's no responses, wish I could help, but have no experience with the '94 radio.

Rob,
I'm on the road (wife is driving but it will be my turn shortly). Search the forum at XJ40.com. Within the last few months a female member posted the secret for getting around the lost code problem. If you haven't found it by later tonight let me know - I think I saved it to my laptop.
Cheers,
Don

Larry,
That's her, paulajayne! If her method actually works, that is one of the greatest pieces of XJ40 knowledge I've read in a while. Thanks for finding that thread. I hope it will be helpful to Rob.
Cheers,
Don

Fwiw I went to the dealer and they supplied the radio code for my XJ at no cost. That being said unless having the factory look is that important to you an aftermarket unit will be far superior in almost everyway. I have a middle of the road Kenwood head unit that is on its 3rd car. I purchased an adapter com a company in the uk and wired it in in about an hour.
That being said if you need a new radio or at least a factory one I might be able to help. I should still have my original unit with its code. But I will check on Monday.

If your keypad isnt working and a battery reset doesnt fix, I would think the unit has failed. But if its already broken what do have to lose.I would take it apart and look for a loose cable, broken solder joints ect.
If It doesnt work after that i would think its time for a new/replacement unit. Personally I would go with an aftermarket unit. If you need a factory unit I have one I pulled from from 94 XJ6. It worked fine but I missed my AUX IN from my phone, so I changed it out.
If you are interested send me a PM and we can work something out.

Jeh's radio looks good PLUS it has the code ...sounds like a great offer!
Do ANY of the code numbers display when you press the buttons or is the --CODE-- display still illuminated when you start the sequence? Does the --CODE-- display show up at all or is the LCD blank?
One last thing to try before ripping your unit out - buy a can of electrical contact cleaner and try spraying around the controls while rapidly pressing each one - this might work!
cheers

I can't remember for certain, but these switches may be of the membrane type, so that the copper circuit board traces and conductive rubber or plastic contacts are somewhat sealed against the introduction of liquids anyway. I was attempting to clean the volume control with the knob off when I made a mess and etched the faceplate.
It is definitely worth opening the radio to see if there are any obvious issues such as a disconnected wire, burned resistor/capacitor/transistor/diode, signs of arcing, cold solder joints, etc. Accessing some parts of the circuit board require removing the cassette player, which is involved.
You might also join XJ40.com and send a message to member paulajayne who is an expert on these Jaguar Alpine radios and recently posted a method for soldering the code jumpers in the radio so the resulting new code would be known.
Cheers,
Don
