As well as leading the XJ40 project, Jim Randle was technical director of Jaguar, largely responsible for the independent rear suspension of XJ40 and subsequent Jaguars, creator of the Randle Handle that allowed a simple, safe and convenient means of manual shifting of automatic gears, and very much the successor of Bill Heynes and Bob Knight.
