radiator fans not coming on-diagnosed
Why in the hell have I never noticed the radiator fans weren't coming on? Because I've never overheated and had any dash warning lights. Because the car is out of service 99% of the time and not being driven. In the hot August sun, in mid afternoon, in bumper to bumper construction traffic, uphill, while taking the mini weiner dog to the dog park. Every single I time I take a 10 minute test drive, some new failure raises it ugly head. Madame EMP indeed. Up to speed and the engine cools down immediately, aha! This 4.0 cooling system is wonderfully overbuilt (minus the stupid electricals) and can easily handle double the HP, which I hope to need in time for the 6'er to die and the LS to snarl.
Fans good? Xtra long jumper cables from trunk to fan connector and yes, both fans blow like hurricanes.
Fan Relays? 12v on Pin 6 to 8 and 9 grounds and both Click! Continuity from 1 to 3 = yes
Juice up 6 to 7 and click! Continuity @ 5 to 1 and 2 to 3 = yes. Relay's good, praise be to Allah!
Remove radiator dual temp switch and notice cooked brown marks on both hot pins of the connector head but the wire insulation is not bubbled. Same observed in the L/H fuse box circuit board on A7. Cooked brown but not melted. Ohm out rad switch connector to relay wires, no resistance per se, wires are good.
Cold rad switch is open pins 1 to 3 and 1 to 2.
Boil the switch in pot on stove at 212F: No continuity 1 to 3 or 1 to 2. Bad switch. Failed open.
My guess: rad temp switch stuck closed, ran continously until hi current flow baked the circuit path and then failed/melted open. But no "fail logic" module on what is arguably the most critical circuit in the car. Who gives a f%&k if a light bulb burns out, that ain't gonna pop a head gasket like this will.
Remember the "Don's Brake Hotwire Toggle" still lurking in the center console? Seeing as the AFU black market Multi Launch Missile System install was indefinitely delayed due to the recent coup in DC, that switch is available to ground radiator temp connector White and White/blUe with yet another piece of glaring red 16 guage through the firewall and Viola! Dual fan hurricane manually switched on drops the temp gauge from N to C in seconds, not minutes. This cooling system will handle 500 HP all day long (with reliable/affordable/replaceable electricals).
Now it's time to pray to the Gods of Ebay for a OEM rad temp switch so I don't have to OCD on the dash for too many more months. God this car is exhausting...

Made in China radiator switch off eBay fit right up and actually works! Sunny summer backwoods road trip and the temp never crested the N mark on the coolant guage. That's TWICE this year I've successfully driven the car for more than 10 minutes. Next gonna Tam Jam that fresh suspension and big meats up the local 4000 ft mountain and see what flavor of sideways the big black battle barge can do... then I'll surely be back asking the community about brake upgrades...
