Hello Everyone,
Recently, someone in a lifted Jeep hit the rear of my 1988 XJ40. The officer deemed it was my fault (even though it honestly wasn't) and in turn, the insurance company wants to total it because of its low value. My car was recently evaluated to have a value of $7000, but despite that fact, the cars selling for $1500 in poor condition are heavily influencing the fate of my Jag. I have found some very similar cars in similar condition selling from between 5k and 8k, but I also want to get some online values. I have the one from NADA, but are there any other websites that can do the same thing? My father and I just have to prove to the insurance company that this car has value aside from the sentimental aspect, as thisis my first car. Thank you in advance, everyone!

HHHMMMMMM!!! There is a website called Kelly Blue Book. Hagerty Insurance has a valuation tool, but that's to buy there insurance. Not sure if you could make that work or not? Hemming's Motor news, might have some listings for companies that evaluate classic cars, such as yours. Usually Condition is where the "Value" lies, and yours looks to be in very good condition. At least before the Jeep took a bite out of it. Ouch! Hope it helps.

Not exactly
your year or model but this car just sold the day before yesterday in the UK and went for GBP£64,000 (US$86,000) - so try that on with the insurance company
- cars in top condition are increasing in value very rapidly these days ...![Icon Steer](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_steer.gif)

Will,
Very sorry to hear about the accident. I hope no one was hurt.
The fine print of your insurance policy may dictate what sources the insurance company must consider or will consider when assessing the value of your car. What was the source of your recent valuation?
To add to the previously suggested ideas, you can search Ebay for completed sales. Sellers are not always getting top dollar on Ebay versus Hemmings or similar, but there are some nice ones sold there.
Here is a 1988 XJ40 that sold for $8,000 last month. It only had 22k miles, but it was not a Vanden Plas like yours, which I'm sure carries some premium when valuing an XJ40.

And then a 1990 that sold for $3,900

Good luck with it.
