Default Steering Column: No telescoping, No ground

Hi,
I just bought a 1990 xj6 4.0. It is a beaut. Black on tan, no rust, momo steering wheel.
There is a problem though.
1. The steering telescopic adjustment doesn't work
and
2. the horn doesn't work on account of the steering column not having a ground connection.

Now for the telescopic adjustment, it is just jammed in place. I unlock the lever, and nothing. I even sprayed a bit of liquid wrench and gave it a gentle hit with a mallet. Nothing.

The horn not working is due to a fault before the relay. (the horns themselves work and when swapping relays yields no change). Also there is no continuity at the steering wheel hub and the column shaft (where the steering wheel button makes the connection....)

I am wondering if these two problems can be related?
In any case, does anyone have any ideas as to what could explain these things?

Or does someone know where to find a schematic showing how the steering column works/how it's ground?

I am completely grasping at straws here since I don't have that set up. Isnt there a power assist telescope/ tilt option? If you had that would it then be on the same ground post with the horns? Or is it possible that your ground connector for your horns has got jammed into the telescope mechanism - power or not- thus causing both problems....

Jerry,
This one is a simple manual-adjust telescoping only. (the one with the paddle lever)
I was thinking the same thing....that maybe something came loose and jammed in the mechanism.
But I don't really know what to look for. I can't find a picture of where that ground connector is or what it looks like.
I don't want to remove the whole upper column if I don't have to.
So I was hoping someone has experience with a faulty column ground or knows where to look for the connector...

Ok, so I just found out that the horn button on the steering wheel is not supposed to be functional (in contrast to the SIII cars).
The button is actually on the indicator stalk!
I found out when I nudged it accidentally with my head...lol

The telescoping is still stuck though.

Partial cure! I have to show the cars tomorrow, but I will try to poke around it and see what may be the cure.... Keep trying...
