Strange Air Mass Flow Problems

Strange Air Mass Flow Problems
Hej Jaguar-Drivers,
I have a strange problem with my cat. Because i had rough idling and sometimes the engine stops running at acceleration i changed the MAF and now I get the FF12 which means that the MAF does not work, and if I put the throttle pedal the engine stops working at 1500- 1600 RPM.
The company which sold the new MAF, told me that the MAFs are interchangable between Range Rover and Jaguar, and the items are the same, so I bought it.
The first thing is that my installed MAF has 6 pins and new one only 5 Pins, but the JAG MAF from 1992 has also 5 pins. And on the connector at the car-side there are also only 5 wires and one ground is mounted to MAF-Body.
In my opinion there are two possibilities:
- I get a defect item
- the MAFs are not interchangable
Maybe somebody has an advice or idea.
Thanks a lot.
- the MAF which is installed has the codes 3AM, AFH55-1, 73242A
- the new MAF, 5AM, DBC10852

Go to this link:
Air Flow Meter Air Box - Parts For XJ6 (2.9, 3.2, 3.6, 4.0) from (V)500001 to (V)667828 | Jaguar Heritage Parts UK
DBC10852 is not shown for your VIN. Click on the "+" beside item #19 and expand all of the options for the 4.0L.
The symptoms you describe could be any multitude of items. What other components have you checked out? And why did you zero in on the MAF?

Hi Rob,
I know that the number DBC10852 is not shown at jaguarclassicparts, but the dealer in the UK told me that there were several numbers and DBC10852 is one of them (from 88-92) which fits my JAG and that the number DBC12517 is the exchange part with the goldplated connector.
- O2-Sensor is checked and OK
- throttelpotentiometer is checked and OK
- connections and wires checked and OK
I wanted to change the MAF because I had the symptoms which are described at the Technical Bulletin 18-38 and go through the diagnostic chart and everything was OK.
One symptom which I recognized yesterday was, that after start the RPM going up to 1000 for 2 or 3 seconds and drop down to 800 and "swings" slightly between 700 and 800.
