tacho and dash lights
hi,
i have to unsolved problems on my xj40 3.2
* rpm meter is not working. car drives perfectly, just no rpm on the tacho
* i have no dash lights. just lights on the gear lever selector and the clock. the clock light is even dimming.
does somebody had similar issues

Given your symptoms, my first guess is that one of the electrical connectors on the rear of the instrument cluster (IC) is loose. The rpm meter or tachometer signal comes from the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS) by way of the Engine Control Module (ECM). If the CPS was not functioning properly, the engine would not run. So the most likely cause of your inoperative rpm meter is an interruption of the signal between the ECM and the IC.
A loose connector could also explain your lack of lighting in the IC.
