Default Time for vacuum

I have posted several times regarding my adventures with the hydraulic booster system on my XJ40. Now the hydraulic pump has packed it in. I took it apart today and only one of the 3 pistons is actually doing anything. Anyone know what vacuum brake booster fits the 88 XJ40? I assume the later cars of the series but want to make sure before I order one. If anyone has also fitted one from another make/model I would be open to that as well as long as the brakes work well. Any info would be greatly appreciated. It looks like there is only enough room for about an 8" booster. Given the bulk of the XJ40 I suspect it will have to be a fairly large one, volume wise. Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear about your difficulties. There may be info about the conversion in some threads at this forum, but I know for certain there are mountains of info at the Jag-Lovers forum. Just search the XJ40 archives. It's free to join (jag-lovers.org).

Cheers,

Don

Further to my Time for Vacuum post. If you are interested in converting to a series III or a X100 servo please see Neb Russ's Brake Booster post and my responses. You will need to read all responses for complete details.

I have a few dozen 3 piston hydraulic pumps from all the SLS deletes I have done over the past few decades. Let me know if you want a handful of them. They are sitting in a pile behind my workbench. I have hoses & valveblocks, they are dusty but I assume they are still OK.

I don't think I'll ever use them.

Bob, thanks for the generous offer. I would have taken you up on it. I have just completed, see Neb Russ's Brake Booster post, a vacuum conversion. Wendell posted a need for an accumulator in that thread. If you have one I am sure he would like to hear from you. Since you have removed SLS and hydraulic booster on several dozen Jags what did you use as a brake servo? I used an X100 and am happy with the feel.

I removed the 4.0 XJ40 hydraulic pumps. The brakes have nothing to do with the SLS on those cars.
