I think it needs to be ID'ed with more certainty. Steve makes an excellent suggestion of changing the cam cover gasket. It is a known problem area and the spark plug tubes are also hard to seal. It is possible that the oil could be dripping from the front lower corner there, or less likely the distributor seal. If its the front crank seal as you suggest, I don't think it would be a Hard job but it would certainly be "in depth." However I have not done that job YET myself. Whatever the case its not fatal or too too bad a job. Good luck!

Timing cover gasket part number is NBB2119AA try googling the part number - I know Jaguar classic parts has them in stock for about 10 bucks but you'd have to get it from the UK. If It were my car and I couldn't get one I'd just trace the timing cover and make one. I've also made gaskets by scanning the design into a pdf and cutting them out with a cricut plotter.
