Transmission Warning, engine won't start
After being parked overnight in a hotel garage my 1992 Sovereign 4-litre auto showed amber transmission warning light, engine turns over but will not start.
My local garage can't find the problem. It was taken to the main agents, they could not locate the problem. Car now on the way home.
Prior to being parked car ran perfectly on the journey to the hotel, distance 50 miles. No previous transmission problems.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I've moved your post from XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III forum to XJ40 forum. This is the place to post techncial questions about your model.

If the engine doesn't start the trans light will stay lit. Nothing wrong with your tranny!!!
Check your crank position sensor ...see if rev counter shows about 200 rpm when cranking - if not, crank sensor is dead and car won't know when to spark, so no start..

Hi Puple Pete,
Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us.
Dittos on Larry's suggestion of the crankshaft position sensor (CPS). If your tachometer reads approximately 200 rpm while cranking, the CPS is probably working.
Another common cause of cranks-but-won't-start is low battery voltage while cranking. If your voltage sags much below 11 volts while cranking, the engine control module (ECM) will not trigger the ignition to fire.
One other thought: are you certain that your fuel gauge is accurate and that you have fuel?
Cheers,
Don
