VCM Codes

VCM Codes
Is there any way to determine specific code numbers using the VCM in my 1988 Vanden Plas? I get a trouble code for fueling failure but no number, even when using the VCM button. Is there a special sequence I'm not following right to get the code? I've tried pushing the VCM button with just the ignition turned on ( engine not running ) but all I get is the Fueling failure with an asterisk to the left of it which I assume means it has multiple codes. Is there any way to pinpoint these codes?

faults codes
Fault codes are used to diagnose the cause of faults or malfunctions affecting the engine. These codes are managed by a computer and can be consulted on the on-board computer. For vehicles years 88/89 there are 8 codes and for the years 90/94 there are 23 codes.
The codes 11,12,14,16,17,18,19,23,26,44 and 68 are associated with the lighting of the "CHECK ENGINE" indicator in the dashboard, for the others it is necessary to consult the computer of By the "VCM" key (ignition on and engine off), either occasionally or during unusual symptoms.
Note that the warning light also comes on when a fuse has blown and the computer must be consulted for the fuse box in question (FUSE 1: fuse box on the right, FUSE 2: on the left and FUSE 3 in the armrest). On the back of the fuse box cover are the fuse assignments, the clamp to remove them and new fuses.
To read the code:
- Stop the engine. - Replace the ignition. - Press the "VCM" key on the computer to the right of the steering wheel. - Read the code FAIL or FUEL + a number. - Locate the specified element and make measurements. - After repair, contact set, press "RESET" to erase the code otherwise reset.
Warning: After intervention, the computer must be reset to zero. Two solutions exist. The first one disconnects the 30 Seconds battery and reconnects it (Loss of the radio code). The second most targeted one removes the fuse C1 20 Amperes for 20 Seconds and is replaced (first fuse of the third column in the fuse box on the left side for model 93/94).
I advise, when a code goes up, to make a first reset and wait until it goes back before intervening. Often the breakdown is fleeting.

frenchfairplaydriver, 95Leaper's car is an '88. Is it possible that the procedure you described applies to the early cars rather than the later 93/94s? If not, do you know the procedure for reading one code at a time on an '88? I can't recall how that is done on the early cars.
Thanks,
Don

Secondary Fault Warnings
Identified by an AMBER flashing border around the symbol.
Investigate and rectify these faults as soon as possible.
In the event that two failures occur simultaneously, then the two warning symbols and messages will flash alternately every two seconds. In addition an * will appear at the side of the messages to warn that more than one fault exists.

Bob,
Thank you for attaching that document. In typical Jaguar fashion, it offers incomplete instructions: it says nothing about depressing and releasing the VCM button after turning the key to position II, or where to watch for any messages to be displayed:
"Fault codes are displayed by turning the ignition switch to position II. Cranking the engine erases the stored code."
Cheers,
Don
