What is an XJ40?
Where does the model XJ40 come from? I assume that is what I have although I only see reference to XJ6 on any paperwork? It is a 1992 Sovereign and it seems everything I see on this forum applies to it so I assume it is an XJ40? Can someone help clarify for me?
Sorry as you can tell I am a very new and rookie Jag owner, pretty car but I can tell it may be a challenge keeping it running.
Thanks

To elaborate just a bit in Lumppy's reply....
The use of the Jaguar in-house model designation (XJ40 in your case) was to differentiate between the outgoing older model (also named "XJ6") and the incoming new model.
The new car was introduced to different world markets at different times and for a period in 1986-1987 both cars were being produced simultaneously. To avoid confusion it became popular to refer to the newer model as "XJ40".
From there it just sorta took off and we now use X300, X305, X306, X308, X350, etc to clarify what series of car we're talking about.
Cheers
