What is an xj40 worth?
I came across an article on the web and it says there are presently only 4 XJ40s taxed and on the road in UK. I find a figure this low hard to believe but certainly 1988 to 1994 cars are very rarely seen on the road.
The are quite a few laid up in garages that need a bit of work to get an MOT and make them usable. Not complex work, just time consuming DIY stuff and typically a rub down and respray. Are these laid up jaguars worth anything or are they all going to go to scrap?

FWIW…
Here in the States I’ve seen some (what seem to be) exceptionally clean examples….almost “mint” condition…languishing on EBay and Hemings for months. They start at $10995 then drop to $9995 then $7995. Still no sale. There’s one in particular that I may not be able to resist if it drops to $6995😁. That’s dirt cheap in today’s market.
Fair/average examples are all over Craigslist for $2500-$4000
Cheers

As the price drops you're literally watching the market decide what that vehicle is worth.... if you buy it for $6995 after it's had a bunch of price drops then that's what the market has decided it's worth, meaning it's more like "market value" than "dirt cheap...."
You're right on the market value thing.
As for the dirt cheap remark, well, I wasn't clear.
I meant it was dirt cheap in the sense of "What else can you buy nowadays for $6995 that compares?" As hobby/special interest cars go, that's dirt cheap !
