Default XJ40 1991 Keyfob (illuminated)

I've replaced both the battery and lamp but it seems something might be missing.

The illuminated (torch) key fob

The 'capsule'

How did you get it open and what size battery are you using? I also have this key and would love to make it work!

Opening it is easy and it's described on the Handbook.
Don't have the key with me but replaced both the battery and the lamp for new ones.
But it seems something is missing ...

Thanks for the response and image. I dont have the manual though. Any chance you can tell me how you opened the section where the battery is without damaging it and what size battery you used and bulb? Much appreciated, would love to fix mine too!

It opens easily just pull apart.
As soon as I get the key back will tell the battery and lamp references (only on the 9th)

Battery : 625A (bought a Varta 625U/PX625A for 1.10 €)
Lamp : T1 1.5V (bought a T1 1.5V 60mA 0.09W 4.8x16mm for 1.80 €)

But when I opened the cartridge I didn't pay attention to how the parts were mounted and I'm having some difficulty on putting it together.

I am going to order the pieces and take it apart when I receive it so I can provide you with how I did it!

Ok so I finally got around to getting into the key to replace the battery and got everything working (if you consider an extremely dim light that hardly illuminates anything as working!) Heres what I did. After taking everything apart, I noticed the placement of the battery first into the Jaguar logo button. The smaller side of the battery goes into the button, with the larger side facing the spring. The spring is also mounted with the smaller side facing the battery and the larger side sitting inside the casing. There are two copper inlays that are connected to the bulb and ultimately the battery when you press the button. By depressing the button, you are putting the battery onto the copper inlay that then provides power to the bulb. I see you took one of them out. You need to put it back as per the diagram so it is inserted by the bulb and makes contact with the other inlay when the button is depressed. Hope that makes sense?

Perfect
I've probably burned the lamp meanwhile but I have it installed the same way.

Its possible I was very light handed when handling the bulb and other parts. I actually ordered the LED version of the bulb and will replace the incandescent one with it so I can get some more light out of it, assuming it works. I pasted the link below in case you were also interested. I will report back my results once I get the bulb in and replace it!

Which battery will you use ?
The PV625 is only 1.5 V ... will not power a 12V Led Bulb

So I tried it with the existing battery and sure enough, no light. I put the original bulb back in for now until I can figure it out. The LED bulb is too big for the socket either way.

To use a Led you'll have to modify the case.
And you'll need to find at least a 3V battery that fits and a 3V led.
(Never saw led's working with less than 1.8V so 1.5V battery won't do it)
