xj40 limp mode to no forward drive
Hello,
I have a 94 xj6 that was in limp mode, but does not move foward when in drive, but does move in reverse. the fluid has a burnt smell. is this probably mechanical? so far i believe it may be electical as well. i think i should start with the trans valve body or forward clutch pack or forward selenoid. any suggestions?
thanks,
Rick

Rick,
The burnt fluid smell is the give away. The fluid has long past its use by date, and lost its ability to lubricate correctly.
The front clutch pack will certainly be toast, as will many other friction items. All that material will be throughout the whole system.
I believe a total strip and refurbish will be in order.
As a quick try and test, drain and refill the fluid, disconnect the battery (which will reset the ECU), and see what happens. Stranger things have been salvaged with a bit of a service.
