XJ40 Roll Call
#61
Hi all,
I'm new to the list and am from the south coast of N.S.W. Australia and am a very happy owner of a '91 Daimler (Vanden blas) that I bought in the last few months after a long search.
She's in very good condition with all original paint and very straight body with only some expected stone chips and some minor scratches. The only rust is some minor stuff around the fuel filler flap.
Mechanically it's drives like a new car, with the steering, brakes, suspension and bushes, fuel pump and all the water hoses recently done and near new Perrelli P4000 tyres all the hard work is done, engine bay too is close to spotless.
Interior is very good for its age with some minor cracks on the base of the drivers seat and a small tear in the bsse of the passengers seat. Rears look as though no one has sat on them, even the rear ash trays have never been used. Only real thing is a sagging roof liner.
So I guess you can add one more..

We've had 26 individual respondents: 1 of which is a former owner, 1 desiring to be an owner, and 1 whose car has been put out to pasture. That leaves 23 still on the road. Of the (non-exhaustive) 19 members I listed in my original post, only 9 reported in. Of course, the other 10 may have since posted on other threads, just not this one. Some I think I've seen since. Of course, others may have sold off their cars, and Lord knows that forum participation (not just here!) waxes and wanes as time goes by. All in all, it's not a huge list of devotees. It is, however, a privileged club!

Valguard - Great to have you with us! Thanks for reporting in. Don't forget to say hellos in the Intros section of the forum. Always a good idea to check in with your Region as well to meet others in your area. Cheers!
Jerry - You are welcome. So, you had to bit the differential bullet? That's one I've managed to dodge...yet.

Hi again Amy:
I read your tread in the intros section, and see you have already received some good advice there. I was thinking about your scenario and thought I should probably add - from experience - that you shouldn't be too surprised how little money you may end up getting for your car. The XJ40s aren't known as the most desirable models, but there are those of us who absolutely love them. Graham was right - you have the perfect car for the person who is looking for one of these with an amazing history. Depending on how hard you want to work, how long you're willing to wait, and how much money you think you need to get, most of your work may be simply matching the right car with the right buyer. Problem is, the value of these cars puts them in reach for the average teenager who will probably just wreck it or at least not be able to afford fixing it. Of course, if you don't care that much, you can just sell it to the highest bidder.
I say that not to discourage you. You've got a beautiful car that I would love to own! But on average, folks are generally mistaken about values for older model Jags. I always tell people who compliment me on my cars, to their surprise, that they're value-less.
Maybe somebody here is up for rescuing another one???!!!
Cheers and best of luck!

Hi Scott! Thanks for the suggestions and guidance. My Mom is the one who has set the price because she knows that her Jag is a rare find. Anyone who sees it says it looks and drives like it was just driven off the showroom floor due to the impeccable maintenance it has received. The idea of a teen driving this sweet car into the ground hurts - but right now it is barely being driven. My Mom can't comfortably drive her anymore except to give her occasional exercise.
It's criminal to have this beautiful, well running and gorgeous car sit in a garage hooked up to a battery 'drip charge' longing for the road. She wants to roam the roads and strut her stuff!
It is my desire that Mom will consider all serious offers that reflect the value of the car (value due to maintenance and loving care throughout the years).

It's not to say these cars are worthless, as they become rarer their value increases - even if slowly for one in good condition but relative to cost when new they are indeed WORTH LESS, but I love ours ('90 4 Ltr Sovereign).
Ours has been put to bed for the winter - snuggled up in the cosy CAR-COON safe from the effects of British winter weather.

As far as the cars being cheap that's the case here as well. I paid $3100 for mine 2 years ago and it's an amazing car for that price. I may have spent $1200 in 2 years in running costs working out to $50 a month. That's a deal in my book.

We need to see some pictures of this xjr 5 SPD or I'm going to ask for a ban.

Hi JEH
So I don't get banned here are some photos. My XJR has just come back from a dyno run; its now up from 322HP to 346HP with the 5 speed conversion and XJRENGINEERS ECU remap. The red xj40 is the 4.0 litre the green xj40. is the 3.6
I picked both 40s up for $500.00 each
Cheers Ray
