XJ40 Values
Hi everyone,
I'm currently looking at a number of very clean late-run (1993-94) XJ40s. Market prices on these cars seem to have been in the $5k-$10k (I'm in Canada, btw) range for a long time, and so it is with the examples I'm interested in. I guess what I'm asking for is speculation, but I'm curious for your thoughts on where the values of these cars might go.
I know they'll never be worth E34 M5 money, but conservatively speaking, what sort of appreciation do you expect to see on them in the next few years? It seems like we're at the point where just about only the XJ40s left are the nice ones - and yet, the auction closings I see on Bring a Trail and Cars and Bids aren't impressive. So are we at the bottom of the depreciation curve, where tidy XJ40s are excellent value, or is this a car that will only ever be worth $5k-$10k?
Thanks!

I wouldn't hold your breath on our XJ40s appreciating significantly in the near future. I also own a low mileage Series 2 XJC and value on these has been stagnant for the 20+ years I've had it. I always thought its worth would increase due to its low production numbers but that hasn't been the case. And a lot more XJ40s have been made than XJCs. I think there will always be a few odd ball low mileage vehicles that will command a premium but they will the exception rather than the rule. My philosophy is buy 'em to enjoy 'em, not as investments. And if you do get lucky and your car increases significantly in value, just consider that a bonus. Just my opinion...
