XJ6 After market Rims and Tires
Okay.....
I am sure one of you here has the answer to my questions or knows a source for my answer. I have a 91 XJ6 Soverign and I want to purchase after market rims and tires and new shocks. The shocks ar not a problem I intend to put Koni's on all four corners and can get them direct from Koni. The rims are a little trickier. What size is the bolt pattern? What is the max rim diameter and width without it rubbing and hitting things. I want a larger rim with a lower profile tire trying not to end up with an overall outer wheel diameter that is so big it interferes with the cars performance. i am sure some of you out there have already done this. Any suggestions?????????????

Bob, while I am not very familiar with your vehicle, normally the cars of that era have some extra room in the wheel wells. Since your factory tires are 205/70R15's, that should mean that you can slide in say 225/35R20's. There's a few options in that size. The big question is due to the tire being about 3/4" wider, will this lead to rubbing issues. Shouldn't since the two tires are effectively the same diameter (new tires are 0.1" smaller in diameter resulting in the odometer reading about 0.4% fast).
As for rims, you are looking for something with a 5x4.75" bolt pattern. As for the offset, what I would tell you to do is to pull off one of your current rims, lay a straight edge across the back side of the rim and then measure from the bottom of the straight edge to the back side of the hub face. If you go with a wider rim, then take half of the additional rim width and add that to the measured value. This value is known as backspacing. As for what is available, that will be a hit and miss situation. My quick look is not netting any results. The largest rim I could find was a 17" rim. I'm sure you can find larger diameter rims.

Gentlemen,
Thankyou! all very good suggestions and it gives me more to consider. Thermo special thats to you for your exquisite detail and thatnks Andy for once again offering your source of parts. I have some time before I am ready but I need to start looking now as there are many rim styles and finishes out there. Thanks again
