XJ6 fuel leak

Hi. I just joined the forum. I recently bought a 2002 S Type and like it so much that I bought a 1993 XJ 6 Soveriegn to keep it company. I posted this question in the newbie thread but it´s better placed here.
After driving the 1993 XJ6 home for the first time I smelled gas. The used car salesman said it was from a breather tube that he disconnected by mistake and left in the trunk.
My mechanic looked at the car today and says that the tube has been replaced and the leak is from a seal between the fuel filler neck and the fuel tank.
Does anybody know if I will have trouble getting this seal from the dealer or if it is available elsewhere and if indeed there is such a seal and my mechanic is not off base here.
I was warned that these cars tend to leak everything, but I´m new to the world of Jaguars and I have never driven cars as comfortable and that handle as well as these. And I´ve had LOTS of vehicles. Thanks.

Hey Jagtech Ohio. You´re right on. I needed a new mechanic. When the new mechanic pulled off the carpet in the trunk it was plainly obvious that there is no seal between the filler pipe and the gas tank
. It´s all metal.
He found a leaky hose in front of the gas tank and it´s about a $50 repair (I live in an area where mechanics aren´t terribly well paid.)
I called my former mechanic this AM and told him that Jaguar says there is no seal there and what should we do. He said we have to pull the gas tank out to inspect it.
I imagine that he already inspected it with his xray vision. Good thing he didn´t start a fire with his eyes.
Thanks for the help!!!
