1974 Jaguar with 350/700R
So sooner or later I'll get kicked off these boards for being insane and being so indecisive, but here I go...
We're looking for a second Jaguar, and these series 2's have grown on me quite a bit. I'm still leaning towards a newer model Jaguar, but keep coming back to this one whenever I get a classic itch. I've owned classics in the past and do most of my own wrenching, so that's not foreign to me. Just want some quick opinions from you guys that own these older Jaguars as to whether or not this is junk with a pretty paint job. Oh, this is not for the Jaguar purist...it does have a motor/trans swap.
Owner claims it only has rust where the battery sits. Wood floors were the previous owners idea that was never finished. Interior is currently being stripped, but he wants to sell as is, with no door panels, carpet, and headliner.
No paperwork on swap (said he lost it). 350/700R and he used it as a daily driver for the last year.
He said he bought it for over 4000 already swapped, but asking $2500 as is and willing to trade, so I would think he'd take less than that anyways.

My floor looked a Lot worse than that when I got the car! I could poke a screw driver through from outside.
For a 40+ year old Jag that's almost Pristine!
Someone has already taken care of the most troublesome part, engine and trans, so what you have there is a blank canvas! All that interior stuff can now be personalized to fit Your taste!
What a Lovely specimen (I freely admit my bias for the Series 2)! And it's almost Red!

Well that's two for two so far. Thanks for the input, guys. I'm not necessarily used to buying 2000 dollar vehicles, especially older ones. I typically look around for something fairly decent, unless of course, it screams a good deal. So I wasn't sure if I was being superficial and thinking the paint looked pretty but missing the rust bucket lurking underneath.

No I would not buy it for more than 500 (if you are lucky and catch me when I am drunk)
You will be working on this pile of iron for years and still have a cobbled up car.
Don't mean to bust your bubble ...but you asked, and I am talking from a lot of experience... part of which is knowing what I have started out with. Don't lie to yourself.
I started with a newer car an 86 that had lived in California then in Seattle, both have no snow and no SALT used on roads - had low mileage and stock in every way. But NO RUST (except around the windscreen corners front and back.... pulled the glass - did the repairs then new glass)
First if you want a series 2 /3 car, look in a state where there there are a lot of older non rusted cars around and no really bad winter weather requiring the use of salt on the roads
Have you been watching Craigslist in the Seattle area for any amount of time or California?
And what do you know about the swap? No fuel injection ? How was it wired? How does it drive? Do you have any experience swapping V8s into Jaguars? Do you know what to look for? Never mind it looks pretty and "you always wanted one" you can get burned badly if you do not do your research. This is a many years project - just getting to know what you have gotten into. Think practically. And above all keep in mind there are NOT a lot of buyers for this car - just hobbyists. Most people are "payment buyers" and buy from a dealer (who will not handle these old Jags )
No I would run away from this car ..
