1974 xj12l - worth keeping?
I'm a forum virgin. Please be gentle. I've had this monster for over 20 years and haven't had the time or money to keep it up. It hasn't been starting for years ( maybe 5). I love(d) this car when it ran. Multiple issues too long to discuss, but I'm wondering if the value will ever go up or is it always going to be a money pit. I do have money to put into it but since the engine hasn't turned in so long, I'm probably looking at opening it up. The engine was performing great when I was driving it. Both fuel pumps went out and the muffler broke off and punctured the fuel line. That's when I gave up.

my 85 xj6 has been sitting 15 years and the engine isnt locked up! i guess it depends on how much you love the car. I plan on throwing alot of money into fixing up my jag but i dont really care about mines value because i dont ever plan on getting rid of it. if you really love the car and it feels worth it to you then go for it fix her up

I don't think any of us has a crystal ball but, IMHO, that model never reached the "icon" level that some other Jags have. I doubt it'll ever go up in value. An ultra-mint example might bring decent money from just the right buyer but I don't think it'll catch on as a collectible or high value car. Just my two cents. Sorry.
Cheers

I'm afraid that as a Series 2, it is never going to be worth any serious money, but don't let that put you of doing some work on it. I had my 1980 XJ6 for 14 years from 1988, and must have replaced almost all of it in that time. Of course as a 5.3 litre V12 and thirst to match, it is not going to be your go-to-work car. However, if you can get it into what I call " enjoyable" condition, you should consider keeping it. This means car may not be totally smart, but is good enough for weekend tootlings and holidays without expecting a breakdown every time. This was how I kept my XJ6 over the years.

The coupe version of the XJ6 or XJ12 Series 2 is a completely different proposition to the ordinary saloon. Only around 5000 were made and it is a very attractive looking car, so one in good condition will be worth some money at least to the right buyer. Trouble is the body was so prone to rust there are very few left around to buy. Those that are around in the UK fetch decent money, but not enough however to cover any restoration costs.
Having a manual gearbox and fancy wire wheels, could be attractive to the right kind of buyer, Yes.
