I actually had one pop out on me a few weeks ago... AND IT WAS PLASTIC! I was really surprised. I just gooped it up and put it back in there. I might try ACE hardware. The one here has a great selection of nuts, bolts, etc.

Ok guys it's not 200 deg outside now I'm at this thing again

I removed the two old elbow fittings from the water coolin carb manifold?? I heated them to get them out and realized they musta been soldered in coz there's no threads and I had to keep em hot to take out.
Anyone have a name for these or something? I was thinking a copper 1/2" pipe cap ????
I removed the tube from bypass at tstat and capped that as well.

ok so I can use silicone on it if I get something snug fitting that's good to know.

apparently my hardware places are ignorant idk.
This is the same thing as a 3/4" OD piece of pipe so shouldn't I be able to use a 3/4" plug for copper pipe?

ok so I had to order two 3/4" copper
plugs everyone had caps 🤦*♂️
anyeays I moved car around in the yard was impressed she ran fairly well for not fine tuning carbs

question. I haven't plugged those holes yet. Shouldn't the water pump have pushed out water ? Or does the water just come from that pipe on the bypass by tstat that I took off and plugged??
And do I need to do anything else as far as deleting that cooling feature for carbs? I mean the top has that line with the vac controlled valve on it that goes to idk what

Only partly familiar if at all. More like the latter !!

My intuitive ++ surmisal is that the pipes are not to cool, but the opposite, to heat. Drivability in cold climes. Carb icing, etc.

Not an issue around here, nor where you are.

Connect the dots... ,

oh yea duh. Would warm the air 🤦*♂️
So water won't come out of them if not plugged?
just want to make sure water is still circulating since none came out when I ran it or if that's normal ya know?

Hello Bill, thanks for starting this thread.

I am having exactly the same issue of my S2 XJ6L overheating. I am trying to figure out what the exact issue is, so that I can remedy it.

purchased a non-operating S2 and had a mechanic get it up and running, but I don't think he touched the cooling system.

A complete newb, I'd love to learn from you and many other seasoned Jaguaristas.

Where are you now in your endeavor?

Phil - Welcome! I have installed an aluminum radiator and did away with my mechanical viscious fan. And installed two 11" electric fans. Along with a system that has a temperature prob installed in the upper radiator hose connected to an electronic box where I can set the ON temp wherever I want to. It has two relays to pick for the two fans; one picks 10 seconds after the other so as not to load the battery down with initial current. However the digital temp readout is only on this unit in the engine compartment. So I would have to open the hood to see what the actual temp is at any given time. Obviously that doesn't work when you are driving. So... I've acquired another themp prob and another digital temp readout to install inside the car (in the ash tray) but they keep sending me one in Celceus and I want one in Farenheit. I don't want to make any more radical changes until I truly know what temp the engine is actually running at. So it's an ongoing project. But it WILL come to a conclusion.

Hi Bill, thanks for the welcome and the detailed note.

My car runs well, except that it heats up so much that I cannot touch the bonnet with bare hands. I've singed my fingers on the head, which from what I've heard, is to be expected, but the bonnet being that hot got me concerned quite a bit.
I will have to get the fins, radiator, water pump, and thermostat all looked at to ID exactly where the prob is. It is an old car, so I may just replace all. The two elec. fan option also sounds really good.

Will keep you all updated on the progress.

Merry Christmas to you,
Phil

Over the years of running my XJ6C I started noticing the black repainted hood started to look like the dry desert at 1,000 feet. And yes the black hood here in Florida was too hot to touch. So I decided that after the new black paint job that I would install a foam hood liner, which I did. Yes, the black paint still gets hot but not from the engine now. I always question that strategy as it's probably like putting a blanket over the engine so I'll never know. I think there are ways of mitigating the overheating (or running warm) issues even though the blanket is there. Would love to install a European license plate on the front of the car but don't want to block any air flow.

No blanket on my SIII.The original looked like a moth eaten rug. I removed it.. Tossed it..
No sound issues?? But, my ears are challenged !!! No extra hot bonnett from engine heat.

But, for sure it doesget hot from the sun in the summer...

The Grosvenor Brown is faded a bit over the area of the old DOHC exhaust manifold.
Lots of polishing and wax makes it almost tolerable. No furthet fade since the Cadillac installation.

different manifolds and location ..Two of four each and lower in the bay...

If my car still had the DOHc, I'ds be tempted to remove the heat shoeld ad expose the neat two down outlests. Factory mainifolds are ususlly ugly, these not at all... t.,
