Hi Doug. there are several Porsche parts webs that you could find them.

I used a modern one. It is suitable everywhere.

Smile Sanding

Emma has been sanding all day long... she is awesome!!
I'm going to spray a quick coat of primer to the naked panels otherwise they could rust....

Use 2 pack epoxy. Moisture proof so the rust won't occur for a longer time.

In case you don't already know, the common sandable primers really do not seal the surface very well, they may actually absorb moisture. To seal it, use a self etching primer, and do not expect it to seal it for long. Words of wisdom from the guy who painted my old Sunbeam Tiger.

Don't need a etching primer if you use 2 pack epoxy. Goes straight onto clean bare
metal. Apply filler afterwards where needed.
No isocyanates either. I use Lechler 29107 (which comes tinted to the colur of your choice, I would advise tinting it as the natural colour is a sort of semi-opaque waxy which makes it difficult to see coverage).

Agreed: 2 part is a pain to clean and does have a 'working life', but my Jag's been in it for about 1/2 a year and no rust so far.

Unhappy Welding time!

Question: I found two cracks on top of the front windshield mounts. Is it something common in these saloon bodies? Sorry, very difficult to see on the picture.

Oh, Thanks for all the paint tips!! Almost ready to primer the exterior but I'm working on some bad dents (roof, and rear/right fender)

I'm not sure - tough to see in the pic but it may just be the joint between the roof panel and the 'A' pillar. It looks to be in about the right spot. I have yet to strip my car so I'm not exactly sure what the XJs look like under there...

Cool Pulling the radiator out.

Hi guys,

Sunday at the shop! I pull the radiator out and starting to pull the engine accessories to prepare the engine bay to paint. We already seal some areas because I wouldn't like to see any rust on them. I found some more cancer areas with rust under the battery and the brake booster.

booster. Rebuild or change? what is best for prices on these Jaguars.

Top vents (I don't know the name in English) by the windshield defroster are broken. I mean the small boxes with a vacuum actuator to direct the air. The plastic falls in thousand small pieces. It is common problem? easy to find good ones or just should I make my own ones with aluminium ?

Debbie,
My car is also a 1976 and I have dealt with many of the body issues you have now.

The demister boxes were actually held together with pop-rivets and duct tape when I got the car and were completely useless. I discovered that Series 3 boxes fit but you need to carve the bottom of the grill a bit so the flappers will work correctly.

The cracks you found are where the roof is attached to the pillar. Mine have cracked the paint on both A pillars but there's no other indication that the roof is about to fall off or anything like that.

I got a new brake booster from British Auto Works in North Plains, Oregon.

My series 1 has cracked paint in the same area both rear and one front pilar, hasn't fallen off yet.

Only a quick reply to show you guys the POR15 on the XJ12 floor.
I think is cool. Then Seam sealer on the corners and color.

Debbie:

Great work in two areas. 1. English isn't your first language? You do better with it than some whose first language it is!! I can do a bit of German and Spanish, but no where near your second language skills.

That is going to be a great car. That in the shell work is top notch!

As to the valence. Rust, dents or rips? Or all of the foregoing ? Definitely fixable. Hammer and dolly and oxy acetylene torch. MIG if you are talented there.
A bit of grinding and it will be slick.

Or, David Boger at Everydayxj likely has decent one. Good guy, posts here and other places

NO! ... my English is not good yet. It's my next goal. This is going to be my 4th year in the US and my English still poor. I can write and read better than speak. Yeah, I could definitely fix my front valance but if can find a good use one for a reasonable price ... I'll take it. I can do TIG and Arc welding but I'm not proud of my MIG jobs... I need more practice, specially in thin panels.

Unhappy Catalytic converters

Bad news.

This is how the catalytic converters look like (borescope camera image). They are completely melted and I'm sure they are the main reason for the 'funny' engine running.

I'm looking for new ones vs rebuild prices.

Debbie.
