1983 Jaguar XJ6 4.2L Series 3
As I’m new to this forum and I I’ve only just became the proud owner of a 1983 Jaguar XJ6 Series 3, whats is the best additive for adding to the petrol tanks now that the petrol In the U.K. is unleaded as my last Jag was a X-Type 2.2L Diesel Sport and haven’t had the need to buy petrol in quite sometime

You don't need to add anything to the petrol as all XK engines have accepted unleaded fuel for many, many, years because US regulations insisted on unleaded fuel. So the valve seat inserts were of the hardened type from about the mid-sixties or so. If you want to put something special in your tanks, the engine may run better on 97 octane fuel, freely available in the UK and has no ethanol in it. The only car I have that I add something to is my MG Midget where I add Castrol Valvemaster, which I get from the MG Owners Club spares department. I also use 97 octane petrol for that car. I never added anything to my old 1980 XJ6 Series 3 and I had that for 14 years.
Very nice looking car, BTW !

Thank you Fraser Mitchell I was reading something on google about the XJ6 and it was saying that the early 1980’s models would lack power because there engines where made to take leaded fuel and that the lead helped the valves, and that the ethanol can damage the valves god knows how like, but it was saying to buy fuel with the least amount of ethanol and to use an additive like Petrol Redex in both tanks as a substitute but the V Power Fuel in the U.K. already has stuff like that in it so just wanted to know for sure so thanks for the help much appreciated 👍🏻

If you have the service history, check to see if the exhaust cam tappet buckets have locking plates installed to keep them from rising up and being struck by the cam lobes. You can have a look through the oil filler cap to see if they're installed.
If the tappet bucket locks have not been installed, that's something to add to your list and they can cause substantial damage if a piece breaks off one of the buckets and enters the timing case.

DefaultWhat’s the best oil for a 1983 Jaguar XJ6 Series3 4.2L mineral or synthetic, as I’m getting mixed opinions that with Synthetic being a thinner oil it causes or is prone to cause leaks then I’m being told that only the early synthetic oil’s caused leaks but that has now been resolved by the oil companies. I will only be doing around 1500 miles a year so would really appreciate your help on this one and thanks
