Roman: please start a new thread specifically about your problem (and with a descriptive subject). You'll get a lot more input that way.

Also, I think that an '88 XJ6 would be a an XJ40 model, but others can verify that.

This means you'll get fewer good opinions and ideas. In the end, more, shorter, well titled threads will get you the best results.

Either way, if you haven't seen this information on Stromberg Carburetors, you should take a look: TR250/TR6 Carbs Part I

You make a good point, I'll do that in the future when I have another problem...I forsee a lot of threads from me when I get to my 1972 XJ6...it needs a lot of work.

it opens only during a/c operation, TEMP knob at between 65 and 75.

then it opens by vacuum, each Dash vent has a Vacuum Actuator. And each Blower Case has one too, yes there are two Blower Fans, one on each side, driver and passenger sides.

you might have to remove the Dash Cap to confirm the actuator nipples or "ports" are connected to blue color plastic tubing, (sometimes white or black).

Default Just Prop It Open!

My center vent didn't work since I got the car.

One of the first things I had to fix was the blowers, so, as I was in the area anyway I took a look at the workings of the center vent.

After a thorough investigation which included calculating how much work and expense would be involved in a "Proper" repair I decided to Cheat and just prop the thing open.

I cut a piece of 20ga. galvanized sheet metal and bent it so it straddles the fins inside the structure.

I cut the forward legs at a slant for ease if insertion and removal. I take it out in cooler weather so I have more heat on my feet, and more air through the demist vents. The legs are long to minimize dropping the thing down in the guts of the climate control.

Here is a close-up of the propped open vent.
