Default 1985 xj6 with 79,000 miles.....should I buy it?

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and to jags in general so I wanted to come on here and see if I could get some input on a car I'm thinking of buying. It's a 1985 xj6 with 79000 Miles on it. It's more or less complete with a few dings here and there and it needs cleaned up. It's been sitting for 3 years but ran when it was parked. Has 3 flat tires as well lol...but this is project or an investment so keep that in mind. The owner wants $350 for the car. Good deal?
Thanks in advance for any info or input

If you can post some pictures of the car you're interested in, it would help those "in the know" give you their opinion.

Yes, post pics

As an investment I can virtually promise it would be a loser. Series IIIs are great cars but there's little market value in them except certain models and/or absolutely pristine examples

Cheers

29k miles and abandoned? No, if the owner cannot provide a history showing the mileage history, it's probably a replacement speedometer, which can be changed in less than 5 minutes in these cars. Ignore the mileage claim. If it ran 3 years ago but doesn't run today, it won't run today either.

However, the price of $350. seems good for a parts car if you have a place to dismantle it.

I chuckle whenever I see "ran when parked". That can mean anything from they won the lottery to the transmission scattered parts all over the road. Assume its a parts car and if you can get it running that's a bonus.

Yes, and in the boating industry we have the same thing "it worked the last time I used it".

Totally depends on your level of expertise. $350 is a great deal, provided you can turn over the motor and can fix it. Or it could be a terrible deal if you're not mechanical---it'll be a boat anchor that you'll tow away one day.

A 1985 Jaguar as an investment? As already mentioned by Doug: forget about it.

How did this $350 investment project go, were you able to buy and fix it?

There should be easily enough good parts to justify $350. The 1985-87 series 3 are considered the best of the XJ6 breed. I have a 1986 XJ6 and if the car was in Maine, I would grab it.
