1985 XJ6 Sovereign. 4.2 ltr
Over it.In the 14 years I have owned my car, driven her 64,000, and spent far too much money on the engine.Time for a change. What if I was to take out the 4.2lt boat anchor and replace it with what V8 Jaguar engine, other running gear?
Can I still use the Borg Warner transmission?
I want to keep my beautiful black cruiser.

Check Jaguar Specialties for some ideas. I'm toying with the idea of a modern LS1 chevy 5.7L and automatic transmission from a corvette or Camaro for my XJ6 which are readily available from many sources on eBay. I don't know why you would want to keep the BW transmission though, when it would cost more to adapt the new engine to the old transmission? Most of the kits available for this swap assume you will use the newer transmission that was mated to the donor engine.

SBC LT1 with 4L60E is the lowest cost, highest refinement conversion possible. Can deliver just north of 300HP easily with bolt on's and same smoothness as the I6

I agree that the Chevy conversion is the way to go

I was curious about your region, but for now I assume (based on the law of averages in here) that you are in the U.S. If so, then follow the advice of your fellow Americans.
Different opinions on options available to you may result from other regions. General advice on suppliers, plus market and various other conditions could also be more specific if you at least disclose which country you're in. Anyhow, in this case we'd all agree the Jag V8 isn't really a practical option wherever you are.

We were just discussing this very same thing on the XJS board. If you're up for an adventure...
ebaymotors.com
search "v12 engine". Lots of interesting swap candidates.

I would probably start with an '03 to '11 twin turbo v12 - just buy the whole car (wrecked presumably). Drop it off at your favorite conversion shop then drive the heck out of it! I think that drivetrain suits the character of the Series III.
