Default 1986 XJ6 master cylinder

My master cylinder is gone (beyond reasonable repair) and I cannot find a new one anywhere, will an xj40 chassis cylinder work for me or should I keep looking?

Not at all. The XJ40 cars have a completely different system made by Teves.

SNG Barratt have them from the OEM supplier: -

I tried rock auto but they only have the xj40 master available (listed for the XJ6 so I’m glad I read carefully) I just found one on autohauzAZ.
