I'm at my wits end with the thing. I've replaced 3 fuel pumps for this car. The car will crank... But will not start. The car may run for 20 or 30 mi after I've replaced the fuel pump and then... Nothing. My mechanic takes the fuel pump out... (The new fuel pump) Tests it.... and it's dead. Is there a relay that could be bad or what could be frying out these fuel pumps? Any advice comes with my thanks!

Well, first thing to say is that you've posted in the wrong forum ! This one is for the Xj saloons up to 1986 when the XJ40 model series came out (still called XJ6 by the way, just to confuse everybody !!)
So you'll be better posting in the XJ40 forum. However, wearing out fuel pumps so quickly suggests to me that you have not cleaned out the petrol tank and its sump filter and need to do this asap.
