first one is where can i get aftermarket headers??? or order some to be made and shipped??
Second after pulling the throttle body and maf i realized that they are toast... theres a crack in the butterfly valve of the throttle body and the maf is a mess of grease and trash.. so question is is anyone running independent throttle bodies? i would love to hear from someone first hand, if not learn from my mistakes then
sorry this is for a 84 series 3 xj6 4.2

Zilch!
There isn't much for the XK engine. For headers you'd need to have something custom made to clear the rack tower. The stock wheezy XK engine wont be able to use the additional flow anyway. Try ebay the classified on this forum or any jaguar parts specialist like Jagbits.com for the AFM or Air flow meter and throttle body. If you've got the bug to hotrod your XJ6 then pull the XK engine and replace it with an AJ6 or chevy conversion...If not enjoy it for what it is.

Are you sure you want to stay loyal to this engine?
Loyalty can be expensive & time consuming, but it can also be rewarding.
When blazing trails with unsuported engines, the cost can be high, if you contract to someone else, so are you mechanically inclined?
I'll tell you this.
ITB's are going to be an adventure, because they are going to require a certain investment. (throttle bodies, new engine bay wiring harness, machined adapter plate, fuel injectors, fuel rail, ECU to control your new method of induction, the list goes on.
On the other hand, the header is realitivly straight forward & require no modification to any other aspect of the car.
I hear you on wanting to run a modiofied Jag, but there are a slough of issues due to the lack of support or market saturation of vendors offering performance parts.

AJ16 Engineering has some upgraded intake/exhaust/ECU stuff for the old 4.2 engines. Good stuff; definitley not cheap....especially if viewed on a horsepower vs. dollars spent spent basis.
Your 2.88 gears, lazy 3-speed box, and 4100 pound curb weight will be a hinderance no matter what you do to the 4.2 engine.
Cheers

I found these on line - but I am concerned with the fit. I have seen on the forums that you may need to modify the alternator location, possibly the A/C compressor location, and above - the rack clearance is mentioned. This is too much chedder for me to put out and not be certain. I also found the same sets on E-bay for around 300.
I am very interested in running a header of some type and omitting the cat connected to the exhaust manifolds. I have read that this is an easy 20HP gain? However, I do want to keep my accesories where they are, and I am not all that interested in extreme modification of the original engine and components. I am still working the repairs on the drive train, and have not moved on to installing the engine.
On Ebay as well I have found remanfactured MAF units for the Jag - 4.2 - stock fit and placement. They run about 250 bucks.
As far as the TB - I have never seen anything other than stock in my internet searches. The only modifications I have come across are complete intake manifold mods that are very expensive.

imo series 3 manifolds and collectors on non cat cars look pretty free flowing anyway, having a twin exhaust is an advantage too.
when it comes to fuel injection a few people have told me you will gain a bootload of power by ditching the efi and fitting tripple carb set ups from earlier 4.2 motors. they would be a pain to tune but with the bigger valves in a series three it makes sence to open up the induction system a bit as the stock manifolds are far from ideal. ide imagine the front cylinders would starve for air under wot.
another interesting thought might be modifying later fuel injection off an xj40 to fit. probably wouldnt be allot of work to fit the throttle body and all the other bits. but if you are going to go down that path the old borg warner is a real power hungry slug and probably wont hold up to any thrashing for long. so in the end its probably quicker, cheaper and esier to fit the whole 3.6 running gear from and xj40 as others have said. really depends what you want out of the car
