Hi Jose, Well it worked out...Mike at Jaguarclock will install the LED's in the Opticell light socket for me, and I am sure the results will be spectacular. That means this weekend I will pull out the part to send to him.

So, could you send me a photo of the screw extraction tool you rigged up to do that task so I can make one of my own without totally guessing at what it should be?

I have a different lighting question for you. I have 5 and 7" headlights on my 84 XJ6 S3 with Sylvania Holagen closed bean lights in them. Now I came across an ad out of the UK for a set of H4's 5 and 7" matching for the car ( 7" UNIT HAVE SIDELIGHTS AND COME WITH MAIN H4 AND SIDELIGHT R233 BULBS , 5 3/4" UNITS COME WITH SINGLE PIN HALOGEN H1 BULB ).

My question is two part : 1. would the light be too bright and annoy other drivers? 2. because they are out of the UK the lens are made for right hand drive and the whole unit might also be too deep to fit the socket? Do they sell the same lights in the US? I know that's three questions...Thank you!

congratulations! I'm sure Mike will do a fabulous job.

here's what I used to remove that screw under the Opticell housing, located at 6:00 o'clock:

small ratchet > 1/4" socket > extended phillips bit > magnet on the socket to prevent losing the parts.

(the small phillips bit just in case you run out of space when backing the screw, it's a tight fit).

Hella and Cibie, among others, offer good lamps for the USA market. Google "E-code headlights" or similar

Brightness aside, anythnig from the UK is likely to be designed driving on "the other" side of the road. The lens, therefore, is designed to throw the light in the wrong direction....to the annoyance of other drivers.

Cheers

I have standard Phillips USA lights in both my Jags, they are bright enough, the high beams (inner lamps) are very bright as they are. Plus I have 60 watt driving auxiliary lights, for a total of 6 bright lights.

in my '65 S type, Rock Browning of Mr. Jaguar (Porsche Air Conditioning & Jaguar Air Conditioning), made me a pair of 100 watt quartz auxiliary lamps that annoy everybody, including truckers. I only use them on very dark roads and then only as needed. I have taken care to align them properly for the least annoyance and to avoid a ticket.

you might be on to something, I do agree that headlights in the UK might be different, but then you can always use the right side on the left side and viceversa, just make sure they are properly marked left and right, and that you aim them per the Service Manual to avoid getting a ticket. (The Factory Service Manual has a section on headlamp alignment). Hopefully, these super-bright lamps will not affect or burn your Headlights Relay, the one that has 2 Red Resistors, or worse, your wiring.

It's not a matter of "left side, right side" or even correct aiming :-).

Headlamps for a RHD car have different lens fluting to throw a different pattern of light versus headlights for a LHD car.

Cheers

Am I correct to assume I can install 55W high beam and 65/55W high/ low beam E-code lights without hurting the car's electrical ?... is it the right specification? ( high beam on the 5.75 inner and high/low on the other 7" outside fender ) I am considering the following:

H5001 Hella 5-3/4" Dia H1 E-code Conversion High Beam Headlamp Kit.
• Replaces 4001, 5001, H5001, H5001LL, H5010 and 5501 Sealed beams
• Optical Quality Quartz Lens • Silverized Polished Aluminum Reflector
• Twice the light of a sealed beam
Kit Includes: Two Lamps
Two H1 Bulbs of your choice (55W Hella H1 or 55W Hella Xenon Premium +50% for $ 18. more)
Two Dust Boots, Two Wiring Adapters, $105.58 per set (2)with bulbs

H6024 7" Round E-code Hi-Lo Conversion Headlamp Kit.
• Includes: Two lamps, Two dust boots and two H4 bulbs of your choice.
• If your car has sealed beams, this is the most effective, simplest and least expensive improvement in forward lighting you can make.
• Exact Replacement for 6012, 6014, 6015, 6016, 6017, H6024, H6014, H6017and H6026 Sealed beams.
• Optical Quartz Lens • Silverized Polished Aluminum Reflector
• 2 Replaceable H4 Bulbs (60/55W Hella Halogen or 60/55 Hella Xenon +30% (add $ 13.)
• Four times as much light on Low Beam, Twice as much on High Beam.
$86.24 per set (2) with bulbs

Do you have an opinion about Xenon gas filled vs reg Halogen? Do you think the Xenon looks too bright, I know it is not that weird bright blue, but I do not know if it looks so bright white it will look funny on an older car. The company out of PA,USA, seems like an OK deal ($201.)for a four light solution.

The stock lights that came with the car are horrible...I've been driving around at night for years basically guessing.

all that sounds like Chinese to me, I have no clue. Are your headlamps correctly aligned/aimed?

Hi Jose, I know there are many different choices with lights and with the conversion from sealed beams, you can change out the bulbs later if they really do not work out ( increase wattage, color, whatever ).
For now, I think I am going with the traditional H1 - 55W high beam and the H4 - 60/55W high/low beam on the outside fender. The other 55W Xenon are a very bright white light that I think will not go with the car.
Yes, I am going to try to make sure they are aligned correctly so they all work well together ( level, height, coverage wise ) although I haven't gotten into that yet.

hi Glenn,
there is an alignment step-by-step procedure in the Jaguar service manual, it tells you to find a level and dark area and park the car 25 feet from a wall, (I prefer a dark wall to see the center of the beam), measure 25 feet from each outer headlamp to the wall to make sure you are parallel, and follow the instructions; I adjust mine 1/4" higher than the manual says. Any higher than that and you end up illuminating the clouds!
