'85 XJ6 Set Mixture
I am almost ready to get my '85 XJ6 smog tested. Plan is to do that tomorrow (Tuesday the 16th). Temporary tags expire on the 23rd.
Is there a way to "ballpark" estimate where to set the mixture screw (on the mass air flow meter)? I don't have access to an exhaust gas analyzer.
I have read posts from a Jaguar shop that say they usually put it at 2 turns out from bottom. I have read other posts saying the factory sets them at 6 turns out and that's how they should remain.
I bought it at one turn out, but the car was generally running badly (vacuum leaks and clogged injectors, now fixed).
At this moment I have it at two turns out. Why? Because at three turns out the idle starts to slow down (I have it set at 850 rpm).
Any ideas?
Thanks,
-mB
