Angry 87 XJ6 bad news

I was going to sell my 87 XJ6 to help pay for my restoration of the XJS. I knew there were some tender spots under the floorboards and I was going to weld them up but first had to fix a leaking fuel line.
So today I crawled under the car for the first time in a year (it's been sitting all that time) and OUCH! There is a 2 inch wide hole on either side of the transmission tunnel that runs about 3 feet long! The rocker panels are starting to go and there is corrosion around the subframe where the rear suspension attaches.

I'm not opposed to welding a patch, but now I'm wondering if it's too late! I'll get a better view either tomorrow or Monday. But I don't have a good feeling about it...

I was right, it's too far gone. I tried to jack it up and the jack went right through the floor. I can't believe how quickly it rotted out! So, I guess the next best thing to do is strip it for parts. Anybody need anything?

If you have the time, space, energy, and desire, pick it clean. Ser III stuff seems to sell pretty well on Ebay. You won't get rich but, still.....

You'll probably get more for the bits than for the car as a whole. Only problem is you have to store it all while you sell it a bit at a time.

Bodyshell is a clear get-rid, although check the front wings, they may be worth saving, as also the bonnet. Bootlid is probably scrap due to corrosion at the bottom of the rear vertical face. Doors - worth a check.

Doug may be able to advise on the really hard-to-get items people now want.

Actually the bootlid is in excellent shape from what I can see. Front wing on the drivers side is questionable, I don't know about passenger side. Doors seem to be pretty good, most of the interior is okay. Even most of the chrome is in good condition! It was running and driving until a fuel line broke, and thats when I discovered the rust.
I have no problem stripping it down to the shell and storing it. If anyone needs stuff, please let me know!

Arrow Parts Request: Air Vent Water Catch Pan with two side drainage hoses.

Have Jaguar 1985 xj6 4.2 sedan.

In the trunk UNDER the rear shelf there is a wide metal part,
Trunk Air Vent Water Catch Pan with two side drainage hoses.
You can see the part by looking in the air vents in the trunk drain channel.
First you have to remove a fiberboard panel UNDER the rear shelf to get at this part. Believe there are some nuts to remove the catch pan.
I'd like to get an unrusted replacement catch pan.
Kindly respond if you can provide replacement or with suggestions.

Parts Request 2: Driver Side, Rear Side Bumper Chrome and Rubber Assembly.

See Wanted Private Classified.

Regards, RC

Hi BrightonRay,
I just recently got out of the hospital and at the moment I cannot even bend down to look in the trunk. As soon as I can I'll take a look and see what I can do.

Good luck with your situation. Thanks for reply.
First remove weather stripping and fiber panel in trunk underneath back window ledge.
You will see six nuts on front of pan and two nuts near back seat for removal.
Regards, RC

If you part it out let me know. I'm looking for a set of seats and wire wheels.

The seats are pretty much junk, but I do have a set of 15 inch wire wheels that are in practically mint condition. Let me know if you're interested?

What if anything are you going to do with the engine and running gear? I'd be interested in picking up the ignition distributor, cylinder head and maybe a few other things. Also the wood around the gear selector and ashtrays if it's in reasonable shape. I would be interested in fuel tank solenoids, pump and a few other mechanical items too. Let me know.

I'd rather not split up the matched set of wheels if possible. Asking $200 for the set of 4 plus shipping.

The wood is trashed, nothing salvageable there.

The drivetrain worked perfectly. The engine had 96K on it, no smoke on start up or anything. I'd sell the entire engine for $150 plus shipping.

I have someone interested in the transmission already, so that's spoken for, but the rest is available.

I already have the rear axle assembly removed and ready to go if anyone wants it. $200 plus shipping.

The fuel pump is good, make me an offer? I think the solenoids have been bypassed though.

Any idea what shipping would cost to VA, zip code 22042 for the engine? I'll think about the fuel pump, was more interested in the solenoids, just thought the pump wouldn't be a bad thing to have laying around as a spare.

I have NO idea what shipping would cost, at least not without knowing the weight of the engine first. It's still in the car at the moment because I haven't had time to pull it out yet. I should be getting to that soon though.

Cool, keep me posted as to the progress because I will probably get that engine from you, barring ridiculous shipping costs. I wanted to rebuild the head this winter, anyways, couldn't hurt to have a spare and just build the spare.

Okay. The car actually ran good and I had every intention of putting it on the road until I found out how badly rusted it was underneath.

Do you have any contact info? I'd like to get more details about the wire wheels.
