Hi folks,

I am newbie, with a starting issue.
I left the lights on and drained the battery. I fully charged the battery and now the car wont turn over, not even a click.
Is there a reset button or something, this car is in showroom shape, only 19,000 kms
Any help would be met with a hearty thank you.

You are NEW, WELCOME to the real world of motoring.

You will have fun, trust me. I have had nothing but Jaguars since 1968, and know of no other car, and now too old to care.

Your 1996 XJ6 is better known as an X300, and one of our REALLY friendly Mods will move this to the X300 area for you, I HOPE.

The fact it will not turn over raises a few questions only you can answer:

Has the car been running recently, and why is the battery flat??. Sitting around, dud battery etc.

Is the battery actually charged??. Do other things work indicating voltage is being applied to the car??. Does the dash light up with the ignition ON??.

With the ignition ON, look at the "P" next to the gearlever, it MUST be lit up RED. If it is not lit up the neutral start switch is not recognising "P" so the starter will NOT work, simple, I hope so. If that is the case, get angry with the gearlever and see if that "P" lights up, sometimes running the lever up and down the gate and back to "P" fixes it for now.

Test the voltage at the battery, it should be about 12.5+v on a fully charged battery. Then go under the bonnet (hood) and test the battery cable posts on the side of each fuse box for the same voltage.

Lets us know your findings, it will be something SIMPLE I feel.
