A year ago I bought a 96 xj6 with a passenger side steering leak. It has worsen in the past month. I want to rebuild the steering rack but the rebuild sounds a little complicated. Where can I get a step by step procedure to follow? I downloaded the manuals, thank you jaguar forum, but there are no rebuild instruction. Any help will be appreciated.

A rebuild kit costs about 1/3 the price of a complete rack ready to bolt in. With out the experience, knowledge and specialty tools your risk/reward consideration skews toward an over the counter rebuild. Rockauto an other vendors can have a unit at your door in a few days for a great price. A proper install is difficult enough as a DIY project.

Agree. Go through all the commotion of a rebuild and have it fail or find that the guts are bad is not good. And the down time can be important!!
Decades ago, I removed the front hubs on my Toyota FJ40 to repack the front bearings. A weekend task, an I had new seals at the ready. Oh, h.... one front bearing fell apart on removal. run dry and/or wet!!! well, need the car to drive to the train station the next AM and a few after!! I pieced it together with a gob of grease. Luckily slow speed only, no freeway to drive. And, remembering misadventure in my teens when a front wheel seized and I hit a rock fence. hard on the fence and T, but I was OK and hit no one else!!
So, when tie came to fix the leaky calipers on my Jaguar, I thought a bit and ordered from Rock Auto. Good price no need to mess with core return. Good price, rapid delivery of the correct parts of good quality. Well, I chickened out on doing the swap myself and farmed it out. At 84, I am not that good at getting up down and under.
New shop enjoyed the business and I got a good deal.
