nice manifold tho, should do the job you are looking for(some are gonna say it aint equal lenth runners) dont worry it will be good enough!
iv done around 30 turbo engines in the last 30yrs, and tried all kinds of stuff(some better than others).

used to be that an old truck turbo was good enough, not so today, cost has gone up 5 times what was usable back then(and so hasnt HP).

im not going to comment on the XK engine, i never had much luck with them.
by now you are learning more about that design, strength and weaknesses.

anyhoo, good luck
Thanks Ron.

I'm not worried about equal length at all, we're not trying to squeeze every last horse out of this motor & response will be just fine, with a more appropriate sized turbo. (luckly, we already found a back up!!!!)

That Drag car is nuts, sounds like you have invested into the car community quite nicely, good return on talented friends & you have some pretty amazing cars.

Looks good!

Wow, you really picked that interior clean! Are you going to leave the interior stripped?

yep, for the most part.

upper door skin caps & dashboard (with new wood pannel, so stay tuned) are going back in, but we're trying to shed as much weight as possible.

keep in mind, this is going to be a test/ drift/ race car, we are just testing the waters & surveying the potential of this engine & chassis.

I want to clean up the interior more & give it a coat of paint, so it doesnt look so crappy.

Well.

We got tired of waiting for a flaky eBay seller.

Ditching the v-band fitting, v-band wastegate & ford throttle body.

We're going to use stuff laying around the shop.

Q45 throttle body

Standard Tial™ wastegate.

Rich Laser cut the wastegate flange & welded up the turbo manifold today

I pulled the valve covers & now I'm cleaning them up.

Intake manifold modified for front mount throttle body (I'll post up mounted picture soon)

There was a business in Ohio founded by Lou Fidanza that specialized in Jag racing parts. Lou had the winningest E type around back in the day. Anyway, Lou has retired but the business survives, I think, and may still have Jag racing parts that would interest you.

Seems line all they offer is a flywheel for the 4.2L.

We've already made our solution for the complete 5 speed swap.

Oil pressure is pretty low in the engine, but we were running 10-40, but the FSM we have states that we should have used 20-50…

Going to drop the pan & inspect the bearings, after we finish the intake manifold, Intercooler, fuel system, etc.

We'll never know the engines potential, unless someone is willing to push the envelope.

Following in the footsteps of others isn't really my or my friend's style.

The car came with this motor, let's beat it to death & then perform a tear down & see what failed.

If its an easy fix, we'll fix it (build it stronger) then move onto the next weak point.

It's all for fun anyways.
AMEN TO THAT!

Since I am on the cusp of swapping my engine I was seriously considering bolting on a supercharger to an 8L 4.2. Like you said - anyone can do the V8 swap but lets just see what we can do here...
I have already 3D designed a new intake and spec'd the supercharger I want. I have friends who can machine the puulleys and fabricate for me ( not my forte) so all I need to do is start a mock up. I plan to post a thread on the build. I am inspired by your turbo concept!

Wastgate dump pipe (dumping to atmosphere) fabricated & heat wrapped.

Default Update!

We opt'd to make a light weight aluminum dash, as opposed to making a wood replica dash (too much weight savings with the aluminum)

We also ditched the Jaguar gauges & went with some more current & reliable AutoSport gauges.

Another angle, with the switch pannel

The switch pannel

Intake manifold, fuel rail & freshly powdercoated cam covers

Another angle

It was a slow weekend, due to a holiday, but things are moving forward.

Wiring a vehicle from scratch is so much easier than diagnosing & fixing an existing system...

Utalizing a Keep it clean harness currently, but we just ordered a fuse/ relay bank from Bussmann, so we can consolidate all components in a single/ secure area.

check it out, this might be helpful to those with wiring gremlens

Has there been any more progress on this build??? This definitely had given me a bunch of ideas as far as my own vehicle.

Update!

Dyno tuning on open pipe still in progress, but showing promise.

Took a break from the dyno, so we can tune some other projects.

Suspension has been completely removed & we are working on the modern coilover conversion.

Interior is being measured for rollcage

Diff ratio is going to be changed & welded.

We were fighting wheel spin on the dyno with the open diff.

The car is very mellow when cruising, but not so mellow in boost/ load.

Oh, it's full steam ahead.

Front suspension retrofit done (stage 1)

Rear suspension this week. (more involved & will require some time/ testing)

Holy torque, that's all I can say.

Hey AristoCat, I'm curious to see how this XJ tuned out. Do you have any new pics?
