Default Airco swap series 3>1

Hello all,

For the past weeks I have been working on my series 1. Will most likely get a series 3 donor vehicle within 2 weeks for the engine and BW66, but both subframes on my car are neglected so I would like to swap over the front subframe first.

The wiring in the engine-bay is confusing and cracked here and there. I will replace it. The dashboard will come out soon, and to make the whole thing even more worthwhile I'd like to swap over the airconditioning from the series 3.

Now, on the left side there are 2 loose hoses. I took out the left blower and it looks like they connect to the heater. (I don't know the name) So, my car appears to be a original airconditioned car. It would be nice to bring back the airconditioning and maybe go to Italy or Spain.

So, would it fit?

Thank you

Default First, you need the S1 CD for parts and service info

AC and heating in a S1 are simple units that work... the S3 is a climate control system that is very complicated. The dash is formed much differently on the S3 plus the expansion valve is located in the engine compartment...would be a big job if it would even fit.

Not sure if it would fit and would never even consider trying... make your current system work..

Find out what the parts are (by getting the manual on the CD) and then you can seek help... also seeing the parts that are there now (the hidden
heater matrix that is behind the evaporator) and you will understand.

Changing the front suspension (whole thing along with the steering rack) and the IRS for the later model would be a good upgrade - change out the master cylinder (you will have to cut out a small section of the brace in the hood or you will have a leak due to the master cylinder cap being pushed around all the time on the new reservoir).
