Counter intuitively, traffic accidents have little to do with kinetic energy or reaction times. The main cause of traffic accidents on highways is the speed differential between the fastest and slowest vehicles on the road. It has been shown over and over that the safest speed on any road is the speed at which 85% of the traffic is going regardless of any randomly posted speed limit. Lane courtesy and speed limits set at the 85 percentile are the best way to reduce traffic accidents.

My first Jaguar was a 75 XJ12C. Pain to keep those electronics up but a beautiful car. My one and only story in it was getting on to the interstate in the middle of Colorado one morning when out of nowhere appeared an older Camaro. He got right on my bumper and I could just see him telling me to get out of his way. I obliged him and floored it. I backed off at about 130 mph and when he finally caught up to me, he had a very dumbfounded expression on his face. Guess he didn't know what the 12 stood for in XJ12C. Normally, I don't do stuff like that but the road was empty and it was fun. Did burn up about an eighth of a tank doing that but,,, what the heck...

After accounting for conflating activities, real life statistics have shown fatalities to increase by 20% when speed limits are raised from 55mph to 65mph. For speeders and drunkards, the distance traveled during one's reaction is increased and their ability to control the situation is decreased. If you want to be one of the 10,000 Americans who die each year due to speeding, getting hit by a speeder, please do it at an empty track.

Pix, you dont die till your numbers up!

most here have talked to someone who should have been killed in an accident, behold just light scratches!

other accident, only a small bump, little car damage, and dead as a doornail!

dont confuse reality with theoretical science.

Default Just not interested in taking a 40+ year old car FAST

I would not trust all the components on my 1971 Jaguar... to go very fast...
tested it the one time over 100 mph and it does not handle well... suspension is too high in the front due to the lighter engine stuff.

Would take my 2015 truck to 100+ mph - but why?

Keep my going fast restricted to a airplane with nothing up there to hit...

I've had my '95 XJ6 with 334,000 miles on it over 110 several times. Sometimes, I just like to floor it to get past slow pokes and then just keep it there to let them know I didn't approve of their slow speed in the left lane. I've come close to the top speed on the speedo of 140 a couple of times at about 5500 rpm, but backed off, because I figured some do-gooder would call the cops. Fastest I've been is about 185 mph in a '70 Ford Torino GT that was modified with plastic body, tubular steel frame and many, many engine/transmission mods to drag race. Neighbor bought it for drug running car and we went around I-285 perimeter around Atlanta topping 185 several times. Scary as hell, but exhilerating also. He was driving and cops never chased us, as far as we know. Hehehe

Oh yeah, by the way, I drove a '55 Nash Metropolitan in high school. We took it on the freeway, I-405 in Kirkland, WA, one time and it scared the hell out of us at about 60 mph. Rattled like it was coming apart. Never took it on the freeway again. That was mid '70s and my cousin in KY still has it in his garage, but it hasn't driven since about '77.

Except the ground unexpectedly. At least if your car fails you are already on the ground.

I'm sure my xj6 could peg the speedo if it wanted too but it starts burning too much oil once you hit 80

besides my jag isn't my go-fast car anyway
