Axle Grease spattering out of the center hub
I have a matter of curiousity. I redid the front suspension on my car last year and when I did it I cleaned and re-greased the the hubs. I added grease until it came out the hub grease cover hole and then stopped. Following that, and since the car wasn't driving I would periodically spin the front tires wit the center cap off and a little "snake" of grease would come out. I'd wipe it off and do this periodically until the grease didn't come out anymore. I was doing this all by hand. Fast forward. The car has been driving for about a year and every one in a while I notice that the axle grease is spattered over the face of the wheel. Not behind the wheel or n the inside of the wheel, almost like it squirted out and spattered 360 degrees in little blobs all over the wheel (not tire-wheel). This is never that much, nothing that a wipe with a rag won't take care of in 60 seconds. And it usually only appears after a somewhat lengthy trip at highway speeds. At first I didn't worry about it because I had probably over-greased it a little (I don't think I seriously overgreased it- I only say this because that little "snake" of grease would come out when rotating by hand)
Does anyone know what might be causing this? I am concerned about bearing wear.

I might add that the grease used is not suited for the bearings. OK for chassis, but not fore wheels!
To my way of thinking that grease fitting invites over grease and with the wrong material.
It's bee a decade or so since I packed a front wheel hub. Old tech. Remove it. clean it and the bearings. Massage each bearing to work the better grease well in to the bearing, but not too mush. Devices exist to do this.
Resist the temptation to pack the space between the inner and outer bearings. New seal.
Replace and adjust load carefully. New cotter, no resuse of the old...
With all respect to others that see it another way..
