Welcome Jopa, what would that tool look like? I've not heard of something special to adjust that push rod.

Dave,

Thank you for your reply. Here is an image of the tool. From all indications on web searches, it seems to be vehicle specific. The pushrod length and master cylinder depths may be different on different cars. My mechanical knowledge is mostly youtube informed.

Here is a Youtube presentation.

Also, I have reached out to one of the tool developers for more specific information. Here is the brake developer I reached out to.

Good research Joe, I have never seen that particular tool, but I understand the purpose. The video is accurate for the reason of testing and adjusting the push rod length. The instructions that came with my rebuilt booster specified a movement of 1/4" at the pedal after all normal slack in the linkage was taken up. The 1/4" movement represents the travel at the pedal (after linkage slack) before coming up against the master cylinder. As proof of this important adjustment, I separated the MC/booster more than once making adjustments to the threaded end of the push rod and when I got 5/16" travel (after linkage slack) I called it good, after all, I sez, what's the worst that can happen?! First drive and I find there is more pedal travel than I would like before the brakes apply, they work fine at that point. Now I see why directions are included with the parts.

That tool would be the cat's meow, but you could probably make one or create a reference to measure the MC to Booster rod length. But again, it depends how your instructions are worded, free-play (travel) at the pedal or some other method.

Good luck with your search and let us know what you come up with.

Thank you Dave,

I appreciate your reply. I will post the response from the Baer, the tool developer, once received.

Doug,

Some of the tools may be universal, and others may be vehicle specific. I ordered one that was for a 68 - 72 Corvette. When using the tool, I had to wind the booster pushrod down as far as it would go to touch the H bar legs to the booster. The H bar legs did not touch the booster, but the center rod in the tool was touching the booster pushrood. I couldn't get the .04 recommended clearance, so I returned the tool, and now trying to locate one that is more universal that the corvette tool. I have reached out to Baer.com and awaiting their response. They are brake specialist, and also manufacture the depth measuring tool.
