I just had my A/C system diagnosed in my 1996 XJ6 base Sedan and the tech says it's a bad expansion valve. He further said it's $2K to fix it as it requires removing the dash etc to get to it. I priced new after market parts on Ebay and looks like $45-$65 for the valve and new evaporators are around $80 max. (his prices are astronomical!) . I'm thinking of tackling this job myself. Wondering what is best manual for this and where to get it.

Yes, the TX valve of the X300, your car, is buried inside the dash.

They rarely go wrong, hence the fitment where it is.

I strongly suggest a repost in the X300 section, as that is where your car lives. Confusing, yes, but fact.
