Default Cabin Light Door Switches

These guys confirm or deny a signal on one wire to turn the light on when door opens and off again when closed. Looking at the surrounding wires, not entirely clear what it is they confirm,/deny. On a Series 2 how do they function?

Those door switches create a ground path for the door open "Puddle" lights. That's why the switch has a metal mounting for the mounting screws. The switch plunger completes a ground path when in the "door open" position. Verify with a multimeter with a continuity setting.

NO relay.

All my MK VII, MK X, S Type, S2/3 and XJS cars, the cabin lights have LIVE feed to one side, the other side it TO earth, via the door switches etc. SIMPLE.

Wish the later rubbish was that simple.

Oh No, Grant, they Must add at Least one Computer (not a mere chip) Per Door (each connected to three other computers hidden in what passes for a frame but they won't tell you where as that's a "Classified Industrial Secret"), so that if the door isn't closed in the Exact order described in the Service Update (available at this time only in the Fabrini language) or, not only will the engine only run in Limp Mode if it starts at all, but all the warning lights and chimes will go off at once and not stop until the Battery is disconnected and certain incantations recited, again In The Correct Order by a Certified Incantations Recitation Tech.

I'm SO glad I drive Olde Stuff.

You have read the Factory Tale of Woe.

My pretend Jag has them on a timer, so when you close the doors in the correct sequence, they stay on for "who bloody knows" time. Mine does that Sometimes. I have recently found them still on 10 minutes later. That was coz the boot lid catch was not "clicked" as the Guru's designed, and screwed the sequence.

THEN

I found YOU CANNOT ACCESS the boot manually, so if the Electickery fails, IT STAYS SHUT. Jaguar TSB = Break Out the LH Tail Light, to gain access, mmmm, but that only works for USA cars with the Red Lever, the rest of us are doomed. Tail lights are NLA, so good luck there.

That For Sale Sign is looking better every day, trust me.

A Mould Breaker, I got offered a 1988 Bentley Eight today, and the thought process is working, How I would LUV to roll up at the Can Recycle Outfit to get my can deposits back in a Bentley. Worth the move from Jag just for that, hell yes.

APOSTASY! Grant, you may not and must not stray from the TRUE PATH.
Repent these evil thoughts lest the CURSE of Browns Lane be upon you.

I will have to tell Madame in Adelaide about these corrupt thoughts if this goes on!

BUT I was going to put a LEAPER on the Bonnet.

Plan is scuttled, Managing Director cannot reach the pedals, or see the end on the bonnet, leaper or no leaper.

Jags win again, DUH.
