Central locking problem

Central locking/unlocking from the driver's door has stopped working. It happened after I removed the car battery for charging purposes. Has anyone experienced something like this? Can someone guide me please?
I can open the doors manually, that is not a problem but the central locking function no more works. I drive Series 3 1985.

Fuses are always the first place to look.
1985 was a transition year for two entirely different central locking systems.
The Lucas (early) system used lock solenoids. The Kiekert (later) system used lock motors.
The Lucas system used a circuit breaker and a fuse. The fuse is #17 in the RH fuse panel. It also covers the door lights and power mirrors....so if those are working the fuse is OK. The circuit breaker can be tested with a test light ....or by momentarily bypassing it. It is on the RH component panel. Looks like this:

The Kiekert system has only an inline fuse on/near the RH component panel. The fuse holder will have brown and brown/blue wires
Cheers

Perhaps the linkage to the control unit has fallen off.
Perhaps the control unit has failed.
Perhaps there's a wiring/connector problem preventing the control unit from getting power and/or delivering power
I'd remove the trim panel for a look-see and some checks with a test light or volt meter. We can help here...but you'll need to let us know if you have Lucas or Kiekert central locking as the wiring is totally different
Cheers

The transducer does commonly fail. You will find it on the RH side of the transmission case near the output flange with a 2-wire connector attached. You could check this connector first as a bad contact there could cause a lack of reading. As regards a replacement, they are availble from the usual UK suppliers, e.g. Martin Robey, SNG Barratt, David Manners part number DAC4570 for the auto box. Not sure about suppliers in Australia.
