Default Climatron

Anyone familiar with this part. I encountered it when I had the drivers side console area open to remove the heater core. The label says "Climatron; engineered to suit Jaguar". It has a multi wire cap plugged into one end and a single ground wire at the other end. Is this a substitute for the climate control amplifier? There is another multiwire cap that is disconnected. All functions of the climate control sysem work.

That's a re-engineered aftermarket replacement for the climate control amplifier.

The original looks like this and may well still be residing, unused and disconnected, behind the tangle of wires

It's not unusual to leave the original in place when it dies. They are a PITA to get out.... If it's working I'd definitely just roll with it ... Just tuck it behind the kick panel when you put things back together...
Gary at JagAire has the best replacement amp these days. He builds them to the original spec, and original size and shape... I think the others have been out of production for some time now.....

Gary also has refurbished and rejuvenated Servos should someone have the need.
I can say they are a thing of beauty, and a Lot quieter than one 45 years old.

I used to love hearing the reassuring mechanical whirr of my servo; sadly I cannot hear that any more as old age has started to bite! Delanair mark III owners do not know what they are missing!

Hi

I have mounted a Climatron in my XJ-S 5-6 years ago. The fuse failed (without looking burned in any way). It didn’t have any amperage marking, so I crossed my fingers and replaced it with a 5A fuse. That has now burned, so I wonder if someone here knows what fuse I should use ?

The fuse should be 1A

As yours has blown twice now, it indicates a fault with either the servo or the amp. Most likely scenario is the servo has jammed, possibly due to one of the rod linkages becoming displaced.
