Default Considering eliminating the exhaust resonators

hi: has anyone eliminated both rear exhaust resonators and replaced them with straight pipes ( i would still use the tips)? i would consider this modification if it resulted in adding a little growl to the exhaust notes. my neighbor just did this to his 1997 cougar xr7 and it sounds great. of course his car has a v8. just curios if anyone has tried this modification. ren

I went the other direction, kept the resonators and deleted the front mufflers, made an awesome growl! Not too deep! And not raspy or tinny! That was of course before lumping!

One of the pipes of my V12 broke where it threads through the rear suspension. The noise was very loud! I'd not recommend it.

I second keeping them. When I purchased my series 2 there was always an annoying drone when I went above 70kmph. I couldn't work it out then realised I had no resonators, straight pipe from rear muffler. I put some resonators on and much better, I could drive open road without the drone.

Drone is a good word for it. It was loud and unpleasant, not the growl nor the tearing Calico that you might hope for.

I put in an "X" pipe behind the trans and the mufflers in the rear pockets. But then again mine is lumped with a BBC. Could have been much quieter with a different muffler choice. That said I can not speak to the drone with my set up.
