Cooling System (I know its probably been done to death)
Hey guys,
I have been looking at upgrading the cooling system in my 1988 Sovereign V12 (XJ12).
I have been looking at a fan set-up like this one v12s - Official Website (may have to open up the fan system tab.
Now if I were to opt for the twin fan setup with the intergrated oil cooler. Would I be able to get a custom radiator made up that incorporates the original oil cooler as part of the new radiator? or do you think it would be a waste of effort? (just thinking the higher capacity would increase the longjevity of the system)
Anyways keen for any input on the matter all I know is that if i dont do something I dont think I'll be taking the old girl out over the summer
Thanks in advance
Steve

Steve,
ALL my V12's, HE and PreHE had the Ford Falcon (EF/EL from memory) twin thermo fans fitted. The RH fan was thermo controlled, and the LH was A/C only.
I switched the thermo unit with the 85c switch already in the lower hose inlet. The A/C unit was simply relay fired via the compressor supply wire.
OF COURSE the radiators were first removed and recored, or tanks off cleaned, and ALL new hoses. The thermostats were replaced with correct length units (some of the Jag ones are toooo short) of 82c setting.
The ignition timing was also set to the correct spec, and all those silly things that go bugga up were also sorted, such as mechanical advance mechanism, vac advance capsule, wiring etc.
My V12's NEVER, EVER ran hot.
The last outing in the XJ-S was to Mildura and it was 44c, and nothing got any hotter than it should. Even in Adelaide's summer peak hour traffic crawl, with the A/C on, the thermo fan (RH) rarely activated.
I also DO NOT run the trans exchanger in the radiator, in fact they were physically removed when the radiators were serviced, and I have a simple after market "large" cooler out the front.
At the time all 3 of the V12's were daily drivers, in the TRUE sense of that phrase.

I've often wondered if the fan assembly from an X300 would fit?
